[edit] CART

Communications Access Real Time (CART) is provided to our chapter by Sue Deer Hall. More information about: CART.

CART translates spoken words into written words instantly, not by typing on a computer keyboard, but by using a specialized device called a stenotype mchine plus CART/captioning software. At the HLA3 meetings text is projected onto a screen and includes not only the words spoken but also sounds such as laughter, etc. With this wonderful service meeting participants are able to follow what is going on, regardless of their level of hearing loss.

[edit] Remote CART

We have the resources to offer Remote CART at two chapter meetings for any Michigan chapter that does not already have CART.

[edit] ScreenLine LLC

Editor's note: We are fortunate in having ScreenLine, L.L.C., one of the better national CART providers located in Ann Arbor. To inquire about availaiblity and costs contact ScreenLine at (734) 761–6686 V/TTY, (734) 761-1107, FAX, or email: sdeerhall@msn.com.

[edit] Movies

The way to go is find an open captioned movie. Some theaters also have infrared or FM assisted listening devices as well.

Another technology is Rear View Captioning.

[edit] Television

All modern television sets, by law, should be equipped with Closed Captioning.
